Senator Dan Boyle, nominated by the Taoiseach to Seanad Éireann in August 2007 and was subsequently appointed as Deputy Leader of the Seanad.

Dan was elected to the position of Party Chair of the Green Party in October 2007.
Dan was the first Green Party councillor to have been elected to Cork City Council in 1991. In 2002 he was elected to Dáil Eireann for the constituency of Cork South Central. In the 2007 general election he narrowly failed to retain the seat.
He was Green Party Whip in the Dáil and continues to be the party’s spokesperson on Finance and on Social and Family Affairs. He sat as a member of the influential Public Accounts Committee, the state’s public sector financial watchdog where he wrote a report for the Committee on Public Private Partnerships.

Dan has served as a member of the interparliamentary delegation to the Organisation for Security Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the National Forum on Europe and sits on the boards of the Firkin Crane Centre, Wandesford Quay Artist Studios, Lavit Gallery and Corcadorca Theatre Company.

As a hardworking public representative, Dan has campaigned prominently on many Cork and national issues, having organised public meetings on the Ringaskiddy incinerators, EPA reform, local green spaces and planning issues.
As one of the most frequent speakers in the Oireachtas, Dan has an impressive voting record and has tabled a vast number of parliamentary questions.
He has published bills on the Reform of Public Appointments, Ethical Investment, Reform of the Presidential Office and the criteria for running for elections.
A prominent member of the Green Party, Dan has formulated many policy papers, including Taxing Smarter; Supporting Volunteering; Pension Provision; Democratic Communities and Towards Greater Social Justice for All and also Prohibition on Fur Farming.

A former Community Youth Worker Dan Boyle has also worked in the areas of disability rights and the arts.

Dan is married with one daughter.
